Reflection: Small Beginnings, Eternal Consequences
As we reflect on the Fourth Sunday of Advent, the reading from the prophet Micah reminds us of the powerful message that great things often emerge from small beginnings. Bethlehem, a town too small to be counted among the clans of Judah, was chosen as the birthplace of Christ, the one who would bring peace and shepherd his people.
In many ways, the Society of St. Matthias reflects this truth. We may feel very small compared to the Vatican, but our mission—to appeal to the Vatican, preserve St. Matthias Parish, and fight for the souls within its boundaries—carries eternal consequences. Just as God chose Bethlehem, we believe He works through small yet faithful communities like ours to achieve His greater purpose.
The Gospel passage from Luke amplifies this theme. Mary, carrying the Savior of the world, visits Elizabeth, and their encounter is filled with the joy of faith and fulfillment. Like Mary and Elizabeth, we may feel overwhelmed by the magnitude of our task, but we also trust in the power of faith to sustain us.
Though we may feel small, our resolve is unwavering. We will continue to advocate for St. Matthias Parish, knowing that every decision we make has the potential to impact generations to come. As we prepare to celebrate the birth of Christ, let us draw strength from these readings, remembering that God’s greatest works often begin with the humble and the faithful.
Together, let us hold onto hope and continue our mission, trusting that our efforts, guided by His will, will bear lasting fruit.
